ONGOING PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Researching and participating in the contents of the course material has made me aware of the impact of bullying on families and society. I thought I knew enough about bullying to understand why this happens and how to prevent it. I now realise that ongoing professional learning is needed to extend my awareness, knowledge and understanding of bullying. Ongoing professional learning will assist me to respond to situations and have the skills to identify the types and signs of bullying. Aggression, discrimination and harassment are some of the terms used to describe and identify bullying. Physical, verbal , convert and cyber bullying are types of bullying we as educators need to be aware of (National Safe Schools Framework Resource Manual, 2011). Educators need to recognise signs of bullying as the children do not always tell anyone. Ongoing professional workshops of social and emotional learning, communication skills and behaviour management skills will help us as educators to acquire the knowledge to respond to children's situations of bullying (National Safe Schools Framework Resource Manual, 2011). Schools anti-bullying policies will assist the educator to know how to respond to bullying and communicate and discuss with children and families so they know what to do if bullying occurs. The whole school approach is needed to support the anti bullying policies.
